Headaches?
We want to get you Back in the Game  of life!
Headache  is pain located anywhere in the head or
upper neck region and can be a symptom of many
different conditions.  There are many blood vessels
and cranial nerves in and around the head that can
be sensitive to pain.  The brain tissue is not
actually sensitive to pain itself. There are many
different types of headaches and a careful and
thorough evaluation should be done by your
physician to determine the etiology of your pain.
Any headache that is new or worsening in nature
should be treated immediately.
OCCIPITAL NERVE BLOCKS:  Headaches caused by occipital neuralgia (pain caused by damage or stress on the greater and
lesser occipital nerves)
can often be treated by occipital nerve blocks.  These are injections of steroid medication around
the greater and lesser occipital nerves at the base of the skull on either the right or the left side.  This may help to
decrease the inflammation around the nerves and thus decrease the frequency and/or intensity of the headaches.  This
may be followed by radiofrequency ablation.
RADIOFREQUENCY ABLATION:  If steroid injections provide only short term relief, you and your physician may decide to use
radiofrequency ablation.
